Dan Aykroyd gets phone advice on nose-hair grooming.

Dan Aykroyd whines about cell reception in "The Great Outdoors" (1988)

For decades, movie and TV makers have been dazzling us with improbable and futuristic 'mobile' phone devices.

They showed us how ridiculously high-tech someone was (James Bond) or how ridiculously elite they were (Gordon Gecko's brick phone in Wall Street) or just how plain ridiculous they were (Maxwell Smart's shoe phone)

Writers loved them for their plot-advancing abilities. Hero hot on the trail of a villain, with a need for that extra bit of edge-giving info? No probs, Steve Austin, give Dr. Rudy Wells a call on the rotary-dial car phone for some instant sage advice.

So - come with us now as we look back at some of the mobile highlights through TV and movie history!
